Scotland has a proud history of whisky production, and it’s traditionally known across the world as the home of whisky. Of course, to be considered a true Scotch whisky, the spirit must fill certain criteria first; it must be distilled in Scotland and matured in oak casks for a minimum of 3 years.

You’ll find that Scotch is distinguishable by the specific region in which it was distilled, though one common dividing factor is whether the Scotch is peated or not. This process involves drying the malted barley over a peat fire, giving the whisky a smoky, oily flavouring. If you’re not into campfire-like flavours, keep your eyes peeled for whether the whisky has been peated or not.
